The Menstrual Hygiene Project (WASH - RAG Initiative)

This project supports school-aged girls in rural Ghana by tackling period poverty. With limited access to sanitary products, little menstrual health education, and stigma around periods, many are forced into unsafe practices that risk infections and keep them out of school.
Our Aim
To improve the lives of school-aged girls in rural Ghana by tackling period poverty. With limited access to sanitary products, little menstrual health education, and stigma around menstruation, many girls miss up to a week of school each month, falling behind or even dropping out.
Our Solution
- Set up local production of reusable sanitary pads (made for as little as £5 per student, lasting up to a year).
- Deliver 10-day training programmes on pad sewing, hygiene, and entrepreneurship.
- Run community workshops to challenge stigma and engage key stakeholders.
- Provide educational support to girls already affected.
Impact
Each kit reclaims thousands of hours of schooling, empowering girls to stay in education, protect their health, and build brighter futures.
